Programs & Services
Youth Institute
The YMCA’s Youth Institute is a new program providing at-risk teens with structured summer and after-school activities that keep them positively engaged, support their academic achievement and build social skills. The Youth Institute is an intensive year-round program that uses technology as an essential tool for promoting positive youth development and enhancing the academic success and career-readiness of low-income, culturally-diverse high school students. During the eight weeks, youth will learn how to use Photoshop, video editing software, music production software, animation software, and website design. Click here for more information.

Career Counseling
Each year, through partnership with Berkeley City College, Berkeley High School students who might not otherwise pursue higher education enroll in a semester long Career and Life Planning course to facilitate a positive transition from high school to post-secondary learning. During the course, students participate in career exploration activities, develop time management and study skills, and create educational and career plans. Whether students will eventually transfer to a four-year school or wish to gain specific career training, the class guides participants towards a college program that matches their interests and aptitudes.
